Q (number) format is a **fixed-point method of coding fractional and whole integers** for processing by a computer’s CPU or a digital signal processor (DSP). The Q format is used to enable rational number processing by a standard integer hardware arithmetic logic unit (__ALU__).

Q is a **fixed point number format where the number of fractional bits** (and optionally the number of integer bits) is specified. For example, a Q15 number has 15 fractional bits; a Q1.14 number has 1 integer bit and 14 fractional bits.

**Form** 10-**Q**, (also known as a 10-**Q** or 10Q) is a quarterly report mandated by the United States federal Securities and Exchange Commission, to be filed by publicly traded corporations.

Number Format Dialog. A number format consists of **up to 4 items**, separated by semicolons. Each of the items is an individual number format. The first by default applies to positive numbers, the second to negative numbers, the third to zeros, and the fourth to text.
