The information in this handout is based on the MLA Handbook, Eighth Edition and the MLA Style Center online (style.mla

1. The paper should be typed and double-spaced, on standard 8 ½” x 11”, 20-pound white paper.
2. All four outside margins should be set at 1 inch.
3. A header with consecutive page numbering should appear on the upper right-hand corner of each page.
4. A title page is not necessary (unless otherwise requested).
5. Begin first line 1 inch from the top-left of the paper.
6. Center-aligned
7. Written in 12pts font
8. Double spaced above the first line of the essay or paper
9. Level 1 heading should be bold, or aligned with the left margin
10. Level 2 heading should be italicized or aligned with the left margin
11. Level 3 heading should be centered on the page and in bold
