Where Should I Keep My Lightroom Catalog? Photofocus

2 hours ago Photofocus.com

By Vanelli · Jan 26, 2015 · 5 mins to read

1. So where should you store the catalog? The answer is it depends. 1. Single computer: create a folder on your local hard drive, name it Lightroom Catalog and save the catalog to this location. This is the fastest way Lightroom can access the catalog. 2. Multiple computers: create a folder on an external hard drive, name it Lightroom Catalog and save the catalog to this location. This setup trades speed for portability allowing access to any computer connected to the hard drive.

How to Organize an Adobe Lightroom Classic Catalog for

9 hours ago Almostpractical.com

The solution is to create a single location on your hard drive (internal or external) to store all of the photos that you decide to import into Lightroom Classic. This location could be a simple folder that you name “Lightroom Photos”. You can have folders inside this folder for different years or events.

5 Things You Need To Know About Lightroom Catalogs

3 hours ago Lightroomkillertips.com

Estimated Reading Time: 3 mins
1. The Lightroom catalog file is a physical file on your computer. If you ever want to find it, just go to your Catalog Settings (under the Lightroom menu on a Mac, or the Edit menu on a PC).
2. Catalogs are cross-platform. Yup, the same catalog will work just fine on a Mac or PC. You could find your catalog (using #1 above) and move it between platforms and it’ll work the same on both.
3. You can store your catalog on an external drive if you use multiple computers. If you work on a laptop and a desktop, you can always just store your catalog on an external drive and move that drive back and forth.
4. If you use multiple catalogs, you can tell Lightroom which one to automatically open. If you’re the multiple catalog type, and you have several catalogs, Lightroom will let you set up which one it opens automatically.
5. There’s an Optimize Catalog feature in the File menu. This one sneaks by a lot of people. As time goes on, your catalog can become, for lack of a better word, less-optimized.

Every computer and operating system is different, but your Lightroom presets will consistently be found in the same location. This is because of how Lightroom as an application is designed. Fortunately, it makes it much easier to find your presets – which is the key part to getting them to sync with your LR catalog.

Lightroom Classic: Problem migrating a catalog / Lightroom

8 hours ago Feedback.photoshop.com

First of all, there is no "Lightroom CC". Adobe dropped the 'CC' from all names about two years ago, so there is Lightroom and Lightroom Classic. Lightroom stores all images in the cloud, Lightroom Classic stores them locally. You cannot 'migrate' from Lightroom to Lightroom Classic, but you can migrate a Lightroom Classic catalog to Lightroom.

How to Free Up Space in Your Adobe Lightroom Catalog

1 hours ago Filtergrade.com

Estimated Reading Time: 4 mins
1. Final Projects. Use an external hard drive network drive to move images you are done with and no longer need immediate access to. It is best to have more than one drive to save work on.
2. Delete Images. Seems simple, but this is one factor that many photographers forget to do. It is often easy and convenient to import all your images from your camera directly to Lightroom.
3. Delete Smart Previews. While smart previews may be smaller in size they can take up a lot of space. Often smart previews will be created when you import your images, resulting in many smart preview folders that can be deleted to free up space.
4. Clear Your Cache. Lightroom has a habit of holding onto things for longer than necessary. While the cache can help make things run faster in Lightroom all the little things such as video cache, preview cache, smart preview cache, and raw cache, stored there can be eating up valuable space.
5. Delete 1:1 Preview. 1:1 preview are generated each time an image is needed to be developed or zooming it. These full-size previews can be useful when editing but use a lot of storage space.
6. Delete Duplicates. There are a number of ways duplicate images can end up in your storage space. While Lightroom may flag duplicates during the import process it doesn’t do as well of a job of identifying duplicates that are already in your catalog.
7. Clear History. One final way you can clear up some space on your hard drive is to simply clear the development history. While you may not want to do this often, since you may want to keep track of what you are doing while working on a project.
